Business Community Welcomes the Constitutional Court’s Decision – Such Legally Sound Rulings Restore Trust in the Legal System

12/02/2025

The decision of the Constitutional Court to annul the Law on Solidarity Tax was met with strong support from the business community, which recognized it as a confirmation of the importance of legal certainty and the foreseeability of the business environment. The Economic Chamber of North Macedonia has received numerous letters of support and congratulations, including one from Irena Jakimovska, director of Comfy Angel from Prilep, who expressed her appreciation in a message to the President of the Chamber, Branko Azeski:

"Congratulations to the Chamber. Such legally sound rulings restore our trust in the legal system, and we sincerely hope for calmer waters ahead."

From the very beginning, the Chamber has consistently and convincingly argued that this law, particularly its retroactive application for fiscal year 2022, posed a serious risk to legal certainty and business stability.

Through Club 100, the Management and Supervisory Boards, the Assembly of the Chamber, the Foreign Investors Council, and other business associations, the Chamber took an institutional stand against the law, emphasizing that selective and retroactive taxation is not an appropriate mechanism for economic regulation.

This ruling by the Constitutional Court sends a clear message about the importance of legal foreseeability as a foundation for economic growth. The Economic Chamber remains committed to active dialogue with institutions to develop sustainable and fair economic policies that will drive the growth and competitiveness of the Macedonian economy.
