Tatjana Shterjova-Dushkovska on Business Club: Chamber Operations Offer Versatility in Work and a Broad Circle of Friendships

01/04/2025

"Chamber operations and their mode of functioning, along with the broad range of topics they cover, offer a versatility that is hard to achieve elsewhere in the country. The ability to focus on open issues across various sectors and industries, all in one place, combined with the large network of contacts and companies, can significantly contribute to career development," stated Tatjana Shterjova-Dushkovska, Secretary General of the WB6 CIF, in the latest episode of the Business Club podcast with Branko Azeski. According to Dushkovska, the Chamber provides a well-rounded approach to acquiring knowledge and understanding key topics, something not found in other institutions.

During the discussion, Dushkovska outlined her upcoming post-mandate activities at the Chamber, which will focus on implementing reform agendas prepared by regional governments based on the Growth Plan for faster EU accession. In this reform agenda, the Economic Chamber will play a leading role in implementing measures for creating a more favorable business environment.

Asked about lessons from the Western Balkans 6 Chamber Investment Forum (WB6 CIF) that could be applied to the three core areas of the Chamber’s work — 1) regional cooperation, 2) finalizing the dual education process and shifting skills acquisition in higher education, and 3) export development —
Dushkovska emphasized that the Economic Chamber of Macedonia has made the most progress in the dual education segment, evident by the figures years on end. In her opinion, the greatest achievement is that we initiated a systematic regulation of the process. The biggest challenge at the start was convincing companies to engage in the process, despite it being in their own interest. The Regional Challenge Fund project, which provides grants for schools and companies, has been just one form of support for this initiative. Regarding exports, Dushkovska noted that WB6 CIF’s approach to direct company support has varied, as many individual companies are at different levels of market readiness. To address this, WB6 CIF has focused on developing digital tools and web portals that provide market insights, helping businesses better position themselves. Additionally, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have been prepared for trade fair participation, allowing them to showcase their products and services with expert guidance.

"Strategically, we are focused on direct access to the EU single market, but we must acknowledge that only a small fraction of companies is currently prepared to enter the market and compete effectively," she stated.

Continuing the conversation, Dushkovska shared her perspective on the economic situation in our country. She believes the system transformation process has taken too long and emphasized that the key to progress is for everyone to stay committed to their responsibilities and complete their tasks effectively.

In the podcast, Dushkovska also shared insights into her personal life. She views criticism as an integral part of professional growth, something that drives her forward. She considers lifelong learning a challenge and noted that through her work, she is constantly learning and finds joy in the process.
