The Economic Chamber welcomes the commitment and readiness of the Food and Veterinary Agency (AHV) to accept the arguments for improving the safety measures governing the import of milk and dairy products. This outcome once again confirms the fundamental importance of open, evidence-based, and institutional dialogue between the business community and public authorities. By taking into account the real challenges faced by businesses, the AHV has demonstrated its willingness to find balanced solutions that ensure high food safety standards while avoiding unnecessary barriers to trade and risks to market supply.
We extend our sincere appreciation to the Director of the Food and Veterinary Agency, Mr. Oliver Milanov, and his team for their openness and understanding regarding the legal, economic, and operational analyses submitted by the Economic Chamber.
Our shared position remains unequivocal: there can be zero tolerance for fraud, counterfeiting, and the false labeling of products. At the same time, transitioning to a system of controls based on risk analysis—rather than the mandatory detention of every shipment—is the right approach to ensuring both effective consumer protection and the uninterrupted flow of trade.
This decision reflects the core mission of the Economic Chamber—to serve as a bridge between policymakers and the business community, acting in the best interests of all stakeholders in society:
- For domestic producers and processors: ensuring stable and predictable operating conditions, protection against unfair competition, and support in addressing raw material shortages;
- For importers and distributors: preventing unnecessary costs and delays, safeguarding liquidity, and maintaining continuity of supply;
- For citizens and consumers: ensuring a stable market with reliable supply, protecting against unjustified price increases, and guaranteeing uncompromising food quality and safety.
The Economic Chamber remains the leading partner and advisor to both the business sector and public institutions, committed to building a competitive, fair, and predictable business environment.
