Association of Insurance Brokerage Companies at the Economic Chamber and the Ministry of Finance in Dialogue on EU Standards and Fair Conditions in the Insurance Market

Representatives of the Association of Insurance Brokerage Companies within the Economic Chamber of North Macedonia held a regular working meeting with Andrijana Matlioska, State Secretary at the Ministry of Finance, focused on improving market positioning and safeguarding the interests of policyholders in the Macedonian insurance market. The central topic of discussion was ensuring fair competition and equal conditions for all licensed insurance distribution channels.

The Association pointed to inappropriate market practices, whereby certain unlicensed entities (both legal and natural persons) distribute insurance products without holding the required licenses. The issue of circumventing legal regulations through promotional and marketing agreements was also raised, as such arrangements in practice function as indirect insurance sales.

“Brokerage companies are the only professional and licensed channel that operates exclusively in the interest of the client. Our mission is to ensure maximum protection for policyholders, which is only possible if all market participants operate under the same, clearly defined rules,” it was emphasized at the meeting.

The meeting also addressed the financial operations of brokerage companies, including the planning and collection of revenues from insurance brokerage activities, as well as other aspects aimed at increasing efficiency in day-to-day operations.

The discussions reaffirmed the need for the Macedonian insurance market to develop in line with EU standards, with greater transparency, professionalism, and a clearly defined regulatory framework.
