The textile and leather industry is among the leading manufacturing sectors in the country, contributing significantly to GDP, employment absorption, and exports. Unlike other economic activities, this sector has seen a relatively stronger expression of entrepreneurial initiatives by business owners, along with the establishment of numerous business connections with foreign partners, providing a foundation for further development.
Within the Economic Chamber of Macedonia, the Textile and Leather Industry Association operates as part of the Chamber’s forms of organization, encompassing:
• Preparation and spinning textile fibers.
• Weaving textiles.
· Finishing textile fabrics.
• Manufacture of ready-made textile products, excluding clothing.
• Manufacture of other textile items.
• Manufacture of clothing and various types of apparel.
• Processing and dyeing of fur and fur products.
• Tanning and processing of leather.
• Manufacture of suitcases, handbags, and similar items.
• Manufacture of footwear.
The development potential of the textile and leather industry is also greatly influenced by sound macroeconomic policies related to stability and business conditions. Increasing liberalization in business operations and the growing influence of market forces contribute to the economy's openness, greater access to foreign markets, and improved competitiveness of the textile industry. It is also worth noting that national legislation regarding the textile and leather industries has been largely aligned and harmonized with EU regulations.
At a session of the Textile and Leather Industry Association held on 21 January 2025, Mr. Angel Dimitrov from AD Moda, Sveti Nikole was elected as the President of the Association for the next five-year term, while Ms. Lidija Milanovska from De Marco DOOEL, Kumanovo was elected as the Vice President.
As representatives of the Textile and Leather Industry Association in the Assembly of the Economic Chamber of Macedonia for the 2025-2030 mandate period, the following individuals were elected:
1. Vesna Petrovska, Okiteks DOO, Skopje
2. Irena Jakimovska, Comfy Angel DOO, Prilep
