In an interview for Bloomberg Adria, Andrea Serafimovski, president of the Association of Construction, Building Materials and Non-metal Industries within the Economic Chamber of North Macedonia, emphasized the importance of involving domestic construction companies in highway construction projects, particularly along Corridors 8 and 10-d. Serafimovski noted that 2023 was one of the most challenging years for the sector, marked by significant hurdles such as a shortage of labor, high costs, and a lack of development policies aimed at providing steady work opportunities for domestic construction companies.
Looking toward future development, Serafimovski highlighted that the participation of local companies in major infrastructure projects is crucial for the country’s economic progress. He stressed the importance of restoring construction’s role as a driving force in the economy, a position it once held through its significant contribution to the national GDP.
Furthermore, Serafimovski discussed the importance of Macedonian construction companies working on foreign markets, where they compete with international players. Such engagement allows these companies to develop their capacities and skills, strengthening their positions not only abroad but also within the domestic market.
