Waste in the Circular Economy is a Resource

22/11/2024

The Management Board of the Center for Circular Economy held a session at the premises of MAKSTIL AD Skopje

In the presence of the President of the Economic Chamber, Branko Azeski, the Rector of the Goce Delchev University (UGD) in Shtip, Prof. Dr. Dejan Mirakovski, along with Prof. Dr. Darko Lazarov, Prorector for Investments, Development, and Maintenance at the University and President of the Chamber’s Exporters’ Club, the Management Board members of the Center for Circular Economy convened a session to discuss the introduction and enhancement of circular business models.

As part of the Chamber’s support for activities related to the green transition, President Azeski emphasized the impact of global economic trends, which also affect the domestic economy. He pointed out that Macedonian companies continue to operate in uncertain global economic conditions. In this context, he highlighted that actions through the Chamber’s system serve as a support mechanism in creating systemic solutions that ensure competitiveness on international markets—where most companies in the Center’s Management Board are focused. Azeski reaffirmed the Chamber’s commitment to being a steadfast partner in the companies’ growth and development efforts.

Rector Prof. Dr. Mirakovski shared that the laboratories at UGD Shtip offer opportunities to analyze various types of waste and explore their potential as raw materials in other processes. He called for joint initiatives between science and industry to minimize waste production.

During the session, the Center’s platform was presented. It provides firms interested in the green transition and the five pillars of the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans with a centralized system to track information and processes, stay informed about current events, training sessions, seminars, and workshops, and initiate joint activities for further development.

Konstantinos Nikolaou, Director of USJE, showcased the company’s circular economy model, aimed at minimizing waste. He also noted that USJE has the capacity to process waste from other companies and industries, repurposing it as raw material.

The session also included discussions on the ongoing challenges faced by companies and potential solutions, with participants sharing experiences and proposing directions for collective future action.
